DNCR

DNCR – Do not call register - will the proposed changes affect your business?

There has been much comment recently regarding plans by the federal government to extend the Do Not Call Register (DNCR) to allow businesses (particularly small businesses) to include their telephone number on the register.

What could this mean for business to business selling in the future?

Once this legislation comes into effect, before any business can call another business to promote their product or service they will be required to check whether that organisation is listed on the DNCR.  If that company is registered, they cannot call them.  The DNCR will also be expanded to include fax numbers.

This checking and validation, “washing”, could add additional data management cost and overhead to any organisation that is dependent on B2B selling and telemarketing.

It is assumed that companies will have to keep up to date data records and regularly “wash” their data to ensure that they do not call a business on the register.

A period of consultation has been undertaken and we are awaiting the results and what the federal government proposals will be.

However it must be assumed that CRM systems and the tracking and ‘washing’ of data will become more important in the future for many businesses.
